
After the smoke settled, it seemed only Paul Malignaggi was the only one upset over his loss. Boxing scribes gushed over Malignaggi’s fighting heart and not over Cotto’s win. I was expecting him to run, and not stand his ground in front of the clobbering puncher that is Miguel.
Cotto was too tough and too strong for Paulie, who even got knocked down during the fight. Paulie proved that he was no spring chicken. He fought until the final bell.
You may call him a headband-wearing, eyebrow-plucking, pout-poser, but you cannot say he has no heart. For fearlessly trading leather with Cotto, he showed a lot of heart and for that, he deserves everyone’s respect.
