The formula is, there is no formula. Ok, that sounds like some flunkey’s copied bullshit and it may be so. But the thing with Marquez is, he’s a very intelligent fighter. He’s able to make adjustments to any strategy that Roach and Manny will come up with. The sad thing about this is that after the fight, Roach himself was beyond himself and was even doubting on whether they could ever come up with a fool-proof plan to beat Marquez if ever they find themselves entangled in the ring for the fourth time.
If there ever was one thing that Manny had in his arsenal and one that is his most potent by the way, it’s his aggression. The same aggression that Roach has been trying to wean Manny away from. Of course that is the natural progression of things once a pure puncher gets older. However, by taking that away from him, Roach is sealing away the most effective weapon Manny has against Marquez. Clearly, intelligent boxing only resulted to doubts and questioned capabilities. It’s now time to bring out the whirlwind. That wildcat that Manny used to be, a puncher of pure malice that went through Marquez like a hot knife on butter during the first round of their first encounter. Roach needs to tap into that malevolence if he hopes to ever decisively beat Marquez. It should not be a problem these days as Manny has already developed another weapon, his right hand. The Manny before is not worried of getting tagged as long as he dishes out his unique brand of punishment. We need to resurrect that Manny and unleash it on the aging (oops I said it) Marquez. That to me is the only way that this conflict can be settled.
