I think Shane Carwin didn’t expect the outcome of his UFC 116 match against Brock Lesnar to turn out the way it did. He was pummeling Brock Lesnar in the first round of their match, bloodying him and almost had the referee carefully thinking whether he should stop the match. It turns out that Brock is made of sterner stuff and survived the storm of punches from Carwin.

When the second round started, it was clear that Carwin was weary from all the punches he threw in the first round resulting to him being easily taken down by Lesnar. It was quite amusing how Carwin winked at Lesnar before the second round started. I think it was more of a psychological attack on his part. Unfortunately Brock didn’t flinch and just smiled back.

Planting himself fully on a prostate Carwin was the beginning of the end for Shane Carwin. It doesn’t matter how strong you are, when you have a person of Brocks size and weight sprawled on top of you, it would be difficult to dislodge him. More so if you’re still trying to recover from a furious first round.

Brock showed Cain Velasquez who was watching from the sideline how fearsome he is when he got Shane’s neck and left arm in a triangle choke. Like a python choking the life of its prey, little by little Brock squeezed the air out of Shane Carwin who capitulated and gave him a friendly little tap. The referee didn’t lose a second and quickly stopped the match.

The main event of UFC 116 showed why Brock Lesnar is the most fearsome MMA heavyweight champion on the planet and Cain better think of a great strategy before he can dream of ever defeating the Man Mountain that is Brock Lesnar.

If you’re a big fan of football fantasy games, this news is going to really excite you. Playfish has released a new football game along with EA sports in Facebook. The game is called FIFA Superstars and it’s really cool. It’s still in its infancy stage but I’m pretty sure its going to be very big real soon.

The graphics are ok, nothing really fancy but it gives every football fan something to look forward to like getting actual data of professional athletes from all sorts of football leagues. Over time, the team that you create with the FIFA Superstars facebook game can even play with the premiere football clubs. Coming soon will be a feature involving World Cup 2010 teams.

In an unsatisfying fight, Sugar Rashad Evans beat Quintin Rampage Jackson in a unanimous decision in UFC 114. Evans was just too fast for Rampage and he was able to unleash punches way before Rampage. It also looks like Evans’ training with GSP paid off. Evans was effective in taking down the bigger Jackson even after he was jarred by a huge blow late in the fight. Evans managed to survive that momentary crisis and came back big.

Still, I think that fight leaves a feeling of something lacking. I think the three 5-minute rounds for non-title fights has something to do with it. If a fighter who takes time to get warmed up is pitted against a quick starter, then he will be at a great disadvantage. Rampage would have fared better I think had there been a couple more rounds in that fight.

Nevertheless, hats off to Evans who came in really prepared and whose conditioning was clearly superior to that of Rampage. Coming in to camp heavy didn’t help Rampage at all. Evans was obviously faster and better conditioned than Rampage and that made all the difference.

I couldn’t help but get pumped up whenever I watch the teaser videos UFC has prepared for UFC 114 this coming Sunday, May 30, 2010. I really, really want Rampage to beat the living crap out of Rashad Evans. The guy can really get under your skin. In fairness, he has one heck of a self-confidence despite getting beaten by Lyoto Machida before.

To prepare themselves for the coming 2010 FIFA World Cup in Johannesburg, South Africa, Japan and Korea Republic will have a match tomorrow in Saitama. This match has some interesting things riding on it. Last February, Korea humiliated Japan 3-1 to win the East Asian Football Championships. Also in April, Japan lost at home to a Serbia’s second stringers 3-0.

Japan Coach Takeshi Okada has been given marching orders by Japan Football Association president Motoaki Inukai to beat Korea Republic “no matter what”.

Video Highlights of East Asian Football Championship Korea Republic vs Japan

The 2010 French Open is in full swing and all the players are in place. The 2009 French Open champion, Roger Federer, has gained enough confidence going into this year’s open by placing 2nd to Nadal in the 2010 Mutua Madrilena Madrid Masters. He is getting back into the groove and expects a good showing this year.

The man to beat however is no other than the rejuvenated Rafael Nadal. In his bracket he may have to go through Ivan Ljubicic to proceed to the quarterfinals and meet either Verdasco or Gonzalez. These three players have losing records against Nadal. And with the way Nadal is playing these days, his chances of storming into the semifinals is very high.

Nadal, should he push through to the semis, could then meet Novak Djokovic, a guy who has never beaten him on clay. Should the two meet, I would heavily favor Nadal to progress to the Finals, where he could meet Roger Federer of course. Based on their last meeting where Nadal dismissed Federer in two sets, there’s no doubt in my mind that Nadal will recapture the title and be declared as the King of Clay once again.

So if I were a betting man, I would most certainly place my bet on Nadal to win the 2010 French Open.
